Summer Kitchen Learning

Summer Kitchen Learning

Learning in the Kitchen

When school's out, keep the learning going in the kitchen with kids simple cooking activities. Not only will your kids get to eat a yummy snack, but they'll also sharpen their math (measuring ingredients and temperatures to reading fractions and practicing multiplication to increase a recipe), reading (Every recipe requires a little reading. Get kids in the habit of reading the recipe from start to finish before they begin cooking) and science skills (observe how temperature changes can transform liquids into solids). Read up on what they'll discover in the summer kitchen classroom!

There's even geography lesson in every meal - when kids try a recipe from another country, ask them to find the country on the map and read up on what food grows there. It will bring the world into your kitchen!

Orange Float Science Experiment

Orange Float

Looking for a science experiment your kids can sip? Follow our simple, tasty Orange Float recipe. You only need two ingredients—vanilla ice cream and sparkling orange juice. Now step back and watch your kids be amazed!

This experiment will teach kids importance of measuring and testing their kitchen science, make it several different ways and compare the differences. Which one fizzes up more? They can also test with different ingredients, sparkling clementine juice is a good substitute for the sparkling orange juice. Another variation might include ½ cup seltzer with regular orange juice.
